In Loving Memory of Salvatore Giglio

A founding member of Sage Fine Art Gallery, Salvatore “Sal” Giglio, passed away May 20, 2019.  The Gallery will honor his life and work with a show during the month of August. There will be a reception for Sal’s family and his many friends at the Gallery on August 17th from 4 to 7 p.m.

Born in Brooklyn in 1929, Sal and his wife, Pauline, moved to Taos in the early 90’s after retiring from his graphic arts business.   Captivated by the Taos landscape, he spent the next 27 years as a plein air painter. Watercolor was his chosen medium; he loved the spontaneity and finality of getting it right the first time.  Frustrated that his watercolors froze outside in winter, he learned to paint with oil, and became proficient in that medium as well. Sal believed the “happy accidents” that occurred on location couldn’t be duplicated in the studio, and often said, “with my paint bag packed, I’m ready to head for a location anytime.”

Painting sustained Sal, and he continued to produce beautiful work throughout his final illness.  He was a member of the Taos Society of Portrait Artists and the Taos Watercolor Society. This exhibit at Sage Fine Art is a wonderful opportunity for admirers and collectors to own a piece of Sal’s work.

Please join us to celebrate Sal on August 17th,  or anytime during the month of August.
