Limited Edition Woodcut Prints Pastels Watercolors
"Art has always been with me, as far back as I can remember.
On walks with my mother, I learned to appreciate the beautiful forms in nature. She pointed out the way light played over the landscape, or how a delicate pattern was made by the wind over the sand … this instilled in me the gift of vision.
My father’s work as a geologist, took us on excursions throughout California. Amidst the natural beauty, I was inspired to draw what surrounded me. I dreamed of becoming an artist.
Through the adventures and travels of my life, my vision expanded, my artwork continued, and my respect of the land deepened.
I eventually immersed myself in the rich, lush world of Hawai’i. It was there, at the Hui No'eau on Maui, that I learned to use Japanese carving tools and techniques. I fell in love with making woodcut prints.
Now, I live in the Land Of Enchantment. The high desert landscape of northern New Mexico is my home. The colors here, and their contrast, have brought me back to my pastels. Blue sky. Red rocks. Every color of earth imaginable.
Regardless of location or medium, my passions have not wavered. My connection to the outdoors feels as essential as my own breath. The history of this land, its incredibly rich culture, its natural forms, the wildlife … this is the undertone for what I create. It colors and shapes everything else that emerges.
These are critical times. Beautiful species become extinct on a daily basis. If people fall in love with nature perhaps they will be motivated to save it. This is why I create.
It is my hope, that my art will capture a piece of this amazing world that we live in, or help a person hold onto a special experience they’ve had, or a place they love.
It is so important..... That we slow our lives down,
take the time to see,
to embrace the land, the wildlife,
and the wild places of our planet. "
